Let's chat

We know how passionate Kiwis are about chocolate. And we know some of the changes we’ve made over the past 12 months haven’t been popular with everyone.

The love and trust Kiwis have shown us is so important to us – and respecting this love is our number one priority. And while we can’t change some things – such as where some of our products are made – we can do other things.

So this forum is for us to hear from you. Tell us the things that you’d like to see us do. It may be about how we can help benefit New Zealand communities – for example, by using our Fundraiser product – or how you’d love us to create a club where Kiwis can get free chocolate, or be the first to try new products.

We can’t promise we’ll be able to do absolutely everything – but we’ll certainly take all of your suggestions seriously to see what we can do. And you can be sure you’ll hear back from us.

  1. Hi there,
Unfortunately, I have noticed the pieces/chunks of chocolate from your Black Forest block have become extremely big and it was much better when they were smaller/average size. I am not sure of the reason for making these pieces become larger as it was much more convenient before, I feel I am not the only person annoyed about this, as many of me friends have also pointed out this problem! I’m hoping you will at least consider changing it back to it’s original size. Please note this has absolutely nothing to do with the taste, as I find it is one of your BEST tasting chocolates!!
    Cheers, Hanna

    • Hi Hanna,
The new block has been designed to be wider and thinner. This new shape is designed to more evenly spread the taste of individual ingredients throughout the mouth and enhance the eating experience. We hope you’ll still continue to enjoy this delicious chocolate even if you do prefer the smaller square sizes.

  4. Hi, Must say that I am a cho-oholic and have been for as long as I can remember… always a Cadbury’s fan!!!! Have moved here from South Africa over 10yrs ago and recently come back frpm spending 3yrs in Oz….. but what happened to the Mint Chips Block!!! We have a dessert that requires Cadbury Mint Chips and it is so sad to see it disappear from the shelves… still managed to get some posted last year….. but now we Kiwi-South Africans cannot enjoy one of our most loved desserts… because u no longer sell this chocolate.
What is the reason for it missing from the shelves… I know hundreds of South Africans bought this…. so what happened???

  5. Can you please advise me why “Dairy Milk” is not available for distribution for fundraising. We have been selling the 85gm bars (box of 24) for our school for 4 weeks and our school has been advised only Top Deck and Caramello are available. We have so many customers that do not like Top Deck or find Caramello too sweet but just love Dairy Milk.

  6. First of all, congrats for going fairtrade! I’m so super glad that Cadbury is actively taking part in such a worthwhile cause!

In the last year I’ve become one of those people who only eats fairtrade chocolate (so yay that I can buy dairy milk now) and as much as I love your almond chocolate in particular, I wouldn’t even consider buying it anymore simply because it isn’t fairtrade. I don’t want to sound ignorant to the already huge difference that you have made, but there is more that can be done and is in your power to do. It would be amazing and much appreciated if you produced a greater range of fairtrade chocolate products. It would certainly make my smile bigger as well as positively impact the lives of many more cocoa farmers.

Dairy Milk is our biggest seller and we plan to release additional Cadbury Fairtrade Certified products in the future. For more information go to: http://choclovers.co.nz/faq/#Fairtrade

  7. What have you done to the famous party pack?? I just brought one and I am so disaponted! The blackberry & raspberrys had a strange skin as did the wine gums and the flavour was wrong. The milk bottles were soft with no ’skin’ the jelly beans were almost square and there was one soft small banana in the pack and no eskimos!! I can honestly say I will not be buying another pack if this change is permanent – Gross, may as well buy cheap stuff as they all now taste the same.

  8. I am so glad that you brought back the cadbury snack block, though i very really see it. so far i have only come across in countdown occassionly.
I do think you have far to many flavours though. It would have been a good idea to keep it to 4 that way theres a even amount and all fit into one row.
you could think of doing whole blocks of the pineapple and strawberry which are just divine!

something else you could consider is making the king size blocks into 2 flavours. growing up there was always a argument about getting either peppermint of carmel. we were only allowed to pick 1 which did not go down well.
there are alot of times when i can only afford to buy 1 block but due to not being able to decide which, i end up not getting any altogther.

hope you find this information of interest.

  10. I have three disappointments. Bournvita that has been my families main coco drink for in excess of 30 years is no longer. If it is not viable here, and there was seldom a full shelf in the supermarkets, why not import? Last Christmas I had a Packet of coco powder and used for several Cheese cake recipes, all made at once. There was next to no coco in the mix. More like Drinking chocolate. Could not even get a dark colour in the biscuit mix. Never again will I buy it. There are better brands available now, even if they do not have the subtle flavours you had in the past. Your cocoa powder used to be full of flavours and unadulterated. Finally, your Old dark chocolate with minimal milk tastes terrible. The current Energy Scroggin is better. Why not just have the old Energy back? It is fortunate that there are now several alternative and superior Brands. The current price cuts also do not tempt me. And the samples and 50c vouchers off the new lines available recently in the supermarket saved me wasting money trying them. Most disappointing after flavours. Why spoil dark chocolate with Dairy products!

    • Hi Don,

Thank you to you and your family for being such loyal Bourn-vita fans.

Bourn-vita was deleted because of declining sales over a number of years and an overall increased demand for flavoured drinking chocolate. We have considered importing Bourn-vita from India where it is still made however it tastes significantly different to the NZ version. Bourn-vita was also deleted in the UK a few years ago.

We hope you and your family can enjoy our Cadbury Drinking Chocolate instead. Cadbury mint and caramel flavours are selling very well, if you’d like to give those a try.

Cadbury Bournville Cocoa is imported from Australia. We started importing the Australian cocoa after we moved our packaging plant from Dunedin three years ago.

We can tell you that the 5kg Caterers packs (multi wall paper sacks) that can be purchased from wholesalers are from the Dunedin factory and are the NZ recipe we have had since 1993. If you know someone with an account at a wholesaler you can purchase this product as a cash sale and enjoy your favourite blend.

For other Cadbury cooking chocolate recipes, have you checked out our kitchen? http://www.cadbury.co.nz/Cadbury-Kitchen.aspx

Glad to hear you enjoy Energy Scroggin. You will be pleased to know we have not changed the Energy bar or Old Gold recipe, they are both still the same great tasting chocolate.

First you changed your Dairy Milk recipe, and even when you took the palm oil out, it still tastes foul. Then you decided to import Creme Eggs…bad move. Now you have discontinued Bournvita.

I am really disappointed in you, Cadbury…its not just your chocolate that is leaving a bad taste in my mouth, its your attitude to your New Zealand customers.

I would say I would boycott ALL of your products from now on, but there aren’t many left that I’d WANT to buy anyway…and would encourage family and friends to do the same if they weren’t doing so already. :(

    • Hi Donna,
Sorry to hear you feel that way about us. Our recent changes have not been easy decisions. The removal of palm oil from our Dairy Milk range is one we stand by, and our research has shown that the majority our customers prefer this version not only because it doesn’t contain palm oil but also because of the taste. We are committed to production in New Zealand for the long term, this means that we have to operate smarter and more efficiently, including moving production of products like Creme Eggs and converting our Dunedin factory to produce boxed chocolates; securing Kiwi jobs. Bourn-vita was a great product that unfortunately while its fans are passionate there just wasn’t enough demand to continue production. We hope that you continue to try our products and find a new favourite to enjoy.

Thanks for picking Cadbury Dairy Milk for your school project, we’re always happy to hear when someone loves our choccies as much as we do.

The Cocoa beans used in Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate are farmed in Ghana from Fairtrade certified farms. This means that the farmers get fare pay as well as helping their community. The Cocoa is then shipped to New Zealand and turned into yummy Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate.

I have been hunting high and low for it in every supermarket I can find for the past 2 weeks, thinking perhaps it was just out of stock. Having read that it was discontinued in the UK in 2008, I now realise that foreign sources will also be unlikely. For us, there are no other drinks which come close to Bournvita (Milo is just Otis’s pal in a movie as far as we’re concerned). So do you think you could publish the recipe for Bournvita now that you’re no longer interested in making it? Perhaps some other manufacturer might be prepared to take it on, or maybe we could make our own!

  21. Hi guys,
I am 38 and was a really huge fan, my expanding tummy didnt think so, but I used to bite a dairy milk, and let the warmth of my mouth slowly melt it between my tongue and roof of my mouth, and think to myself – god this is the most creamiest of chocolate I have ever tasted. I tried the american chocolate, yuck, the english, yuck, and the aussie, yuck. Everyone who knew me, knew they had to give me anything cadbury, not the other brands. That was until over a year ago when eating a bar made my mouth burn?, the tongue and back of my throat and lips tingled?. Hard to describe. I thought it was just me, but the next time it happened too. Then all the news came out about palm oil and cadbury chocolate not tasting the same e.t.c and then I knew it wasnt my imagination. for the first time in my life…I completely went off cadburys. Then I heard you were shifting some of them overseas to be made, and how you guys were returning to the original recipes. So I gave you another chance. Tasted the newer version and it is absolutely disgusting. This fair trade one is so horrid that I couldnt eat anymore. I have tried 3 times since (weeks and months in between) and it is the same each time. I am absolutely gutted guys. I know you had to make financial adjustments, and think what is best for the customer and the company, but I know I am not alone in going for other teams now and walking past your bars/boxes. I really really want to come back to cadbury, I even dont mind paying extra for that old familiar taste!!. I dont know what else to say. I know your reply will be how saddened you are to hear this, and you are working with new machines e.t.c I understand all of that, but you have to think to yourself…give them another 12 months maybe?, how much longer until they get all of this right, or have the other 2 opponents won by staying true (well the other major one is not doing so fair either lately, but one of the other local ones now has my chocolate heart for now)…BUT when you guys do go back, or figure out how to get back to that melting heaven taste….I promise I will come back!!!

    • Hi Chris,
Thanks for your in-depth and post. We are indeed saddened to hear you’re not enjoying our Fairtrade Certified Cadbury Dairy Milk milk chocolate.
The response since changing to this current recipe has been overly positive, and we are sorry to hear you are not one of those that like the Fairtrade ingredients. We hope you continue to try new Cadbury products and find some that you truly enjoy, as we really do value passionate fans like yourself.

  22. Hey I really like your dairy milk chocolate. I did like the old shape & size though. My class studied about palm oil last year & sent a letter complaining about the palm oil in your chocolate. Have you taken palm oil out of your products?

  23. Hi, just wanted to say that while the portion sizes etc took a little bit of getting used to, I personally haven’t noticed a change in taste and I’m loving the new packaging for your chocolate blocks

my flat currently has a whole wall plastered with cadbury chocolate boxes!

    Thanks
